Watford summer transfer target Josh Doig has spoken about speculation over his future and said he is "enjoying football" at Hibernian for the time being.

The 19-year-old left-back was on a list of Hornets targets in the summer and was also linked with moves to Arsenal and Leeds.

The defender remained at Easter Road and in November signed a new deal that runs until the summer of 2026, putting Hibs in a stronger position over his future.

However, Watford remain interested in Doig and see him as a player potentially worth investing in for the future, while reports have claimed representatives from Serie A side Sassuolo were at Pittodrie at the weekend to watch him, as his list of suitors continues to grow.

Whether or not a move to Vicarage Road will materialise in the future could be dependent on what position the club are in come the end of the season, with potential likely to be behind experience on a list of priorities.

When asked about his future, Doig, on Euro 2023 qualifying duty with Scotland Under-21s, said: “I am kind of getting used to it, I have learned from the summer when I let it distract me a little bit.

“I am ignoring it and getting on with the football.

“Don’t look at anything, Twitter, Instagram, stay away from it all, just play your football, at the end of the day, that’s what will get you your move in the end.

“You have your family, your pals, telling you all sorts of things.

“It is nice to hear sometimes but as a professional you need to put it to the back of your mind and just get on with training and playing every day and just enjoying your football.”
