Newcastle United are considering a future move for Watford's Ismaila Sarr, but the situation regarding the Magpies and transfers is currently far from clear.

Last night The Sun claimed Newcastle will make an offer for the Hornets' record signing in the summer, whether or not Watford are relegated, as they look to spend their newly gained Saudi riches.

While the Watford Observer understands that Newcastle have at least declared an interest in Sarr, it is also understood the Tynesiders are showing interest in quite a large number of players, as they try and reduce their long list of targets into a smaller list of possible transfers for the summer, should they avoid relegation, which now seems likely.

A source familiar with Newcastle's recent transfer approach claimed they were "putting feelers out" for any players they considered to be "half-decent" as they look to build for the future.

Whether or not Sarr has graduated from the long list to the short list remains to be seen, however sources close to the player have told the Watford Observer that there has been no change in the situation since last month, when the initial contact was understood to have been made.

It seems increasingly likely that Sarr will be allowed to move on in the summer, although a number of injuries this season have hampered his game time this season, meaning that Watford's chances of recouping the £30million they spent on him are looking slimmer, particularly if they are relegated come the end of the campaign.

Newcastle are one of several teams who would be able to pay over the odds for the winger, but may deem other options more suitable.

Sarr's current deal expires in 2024 and Liverpool, Manchester United and Crystal Palace have all also shown interest in him since he joined the Hornets.

The same report in The Sun also claims that Emmanuel Dennis has attracted interest from Villarreal.

Should Watford be relegated, it would be difficult for them to hold on to the Nigerian, who is their top goalscorer this season with nine goals from 27 Premier League appearances.
