After the home defeat to Leeds United it came as no surprise that people repeated their pessimistic attitude towards Mr Gino Pozzo’s ten-year ownership of Watford FC (“Overhaul Required”, Letters, April 15).

In his letter to the editor, Mr Frais is once again being very selective and cherry-picks two poor seasons out of the last ten seasons, instead of looking at the broader picture of Mr Pozzo’s ten-year tenure at the Vic.

In 1881, Henry Grover founded what was to become Watford FC (in the shape of Watford Rovers). In those 141 years of Watford’s past I can’t think of any other owner, apart from Elton John, that has possibly achieved more than Gino Pozzo. I advise Watford FC fans to be careful what you wish for and to remember some of the disappointing previous owners of our club over the last 25 years.

Since it was founded the football club has so far travelled a long way on its journey, from the lower tiers of non-league football to the upper echelons of our game. However, at this point in our journey as Watford FC fans, we remain a small fish in a large pond when playing in the Premier League. As Watford FC fans, our journey is far from over and we look forward to the future when we will once again be dining at the top table with the big clubs of the Premier League.

If Mr Hodgson and Mr Lewington don’t stay for the 2022/23 season then I would like to thank both of them, as well as Mr Ranieri and Mr Munoz, for their efforts and endeavours during 2021/22 season.

If we do need a new manager then Mr Pozzo has to have a look at Malky Mackay of Ross County and Wycombe’s Gareth Ainsworth. Over the last ten years both of these managers have had tremendous success of management of professional football clubs.
