Watford manager Roy Hodgson has said he has been given no assurances over his future, after the Hornets fell to a dismal 5-1 defeat at Manchester City.

While the boss is expected to see out the season in his current role before the club rebuilds with someone else in the summer, either in the Championship or Premier League, the Hornets' record of swinging the axe on managers and head coaches may cause him to feel uneasy ahead of the final five matches.

Since Hodgson's arrival, Watford have picked up just eight points from a total of 36 available and look destined to slip straight back out of the top flight.

And with six head coaches getting the sack at the club since 2019, it would hardly come as a surprise if the ex-England boss were to be moved on before the end of the campaign.

"[I've received] no assurances at all," said Hodgson when asked how stable his future at the club was. "If they think that the situation can be changed by getting rid of myself and Ray [Lewington], then that will be their prerogative. I've never asked for any assurances since I came to the club.

"I said I'd come to the club, I'd do the job to the best of my ability. But I've never once asked for any assurances and I don't have those type of conversations with the owner."
