Midfielder Philip Zinckernagel is on the verge of joining Greek side Olympiakos for an initial payment of at least €2m.

It's understood that fee could rise further depending on a number of different clauses.

The Dane enjoyed regular first-team football at Nottingham Forest last season and helped them secure promotion via the play-offs.

However, the indications are that he would not have been a first choice within the style/formation that new head coach Rob Edwards wants to play.

The desire to avoid having non-homegrown players left out of matchday squads due to the Football League's rule insisting a maximum of 11 can be named on the team sheet meant it looked likely Zinckernagel would be on the fringes.

Therefore, it's no surprise the player was keen to seek options where he might be more likely to feature.

Meanwhile, reports that Daniel Bachmann is having discussions with Manchester United are a little more surprising given he would be competing for a first-team place alongside Nigerian international Maduka Okoye.

Bachmann is classed as a homegrown player and nothing that has come out of the club suggests they are looking to sell.

However, if rumours of an offer in the £3m to £4m range are accurate then it would be understandable if Watford sat up and listened.

Bachmann would be returning to a Premier League club which could boost his international prospects as well.

Should he depart then expect Watford to look for an experienced keeper who is homegrown, or who is classed as such under EFL rules.
