Ondine Achampong, from Kings Langley, took the women’s gymnastics silver behind Georgia Godwin of Australia.

The 18-year-old from Kings Langley competed on Sunday (July 21) less than 24 hours after being part of Saturday’s gold medal-winning team event.

The former Divine Saviour Catholic Primary School pupil recovered her poise on her next piece of apparatus.

She said: “I try to split up my competition into each piece, so once one piece is over it’s fine and if I’ve made a mistake I just move on.

“Obviously it’s disappointing that Alice (Kinsella) couldn’t join me on the podium. I don’t think I could have got through this without her. After the beam had finished we both made sure each other was okay. I couldn’t ask for a better team-mate.”
