Leigh Bromby is looking forward to a reunion with Neil Warnock, his former mentor, when Watford host Crystal Palace tomorrow (Saturday).

Bromby spent three years under the guidance of the colourful Warnock after being signed from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, making over a century of appearances for the Blades.

The pair developed a close relationship during their time together at Bramall Lane, and Bromby even sought the advice of Warnock when Watford came calling in January.

Plymouth were courting the defender as were Hull, who were eventually put off by the asking price, but although Warnock, who has been critical of Watford's style of play, is unlikely to have recommended Vicarage Road as Bromby's next port of call, he certainly persuaded the defender it was time to seek a fresh challenge.

"I was on the phone to Neil for some advice when I came down here for talks," revealed Bromby.

"He thought it was maybe time for me to move and it was nice to get the opinion of someone so experienced.

"He'll probably tell you he turned my career around when I went to United," he added with a smile. "He liked to let me know that. He got the best out of me and can make players. He falls out with you all the time when you are there but when you leave he is really friendly. I've tried to keep clear of him this week."

Having worked under Warnock and Aidy Boothroyd, Bromby is well placed to assess the credentials of both men ahead of what should be a fascinating tactical battle tomorrow.

"He's totally different to Aidy, a bit more old school," said Bromby. "I enjoyed working with Neil. He is a big character and gets the best out of his players in his own way.

"Aidy is relentless on the training ground and I've really enjoyed working with him. He's totally different to what I've worked with before."
