Callum Shinkwin produced one of the best results of his career to finish fourth in the prestigious Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The Watford-born golfer shot a final three-under-par round of 69 to finish on 15-under at Emirates Golf Club, four shots behind playing partner and champion Rory McIlroy.

Previous rounds of 71, 66 and 67 had seen the 29-year-old, who is attached to Moor Park Golf Club, tee off in the final group alongside the four-time major champion in the race to land the Rolex Series event.

Shinkwin slipped out of contention for the title with bogeys in three of his first six holes, but a birdie at the seventh saw his fortunes begin to turn.

He picked up another shot at the tenth, and went on to also birdie holes 12, 13, 17 and 18 to finish a successful week on a high by playing the back nine in five-under-par.

Former Moor Park professional Matt Wallace also had a strong week, finishing five shots behind Shinkwin on ten-under-par in a tie for 16th.
