It is approaching 40 years since what is widely regarded as the pinnacle of Watford’s golden era – and this striker was a big reason why the Hornets reached their first FA Cup Final in 1984.

George Reilly’s place in the club’s history was guaranteed from the moment when he headed home what proved to the only goal of the semi-final victory against Plymouth Argyle, but he also weighed in with three other goals on the road to Wembley.

Signed for just £90,000 from Cambridge United in August 1983, Reilly’s Vicarage Road career lasted only 18 months and consisted of 61 appearances before he moved to Newcastle United. During that time though, he scored 19 goals and formed a fine strike partnership with Mo Johnston.
