A referee whose only red card last season was issued to a Watford player is due to be in charge of tonight’s Carabao Cup second round tie against Plymouth Argyle.
It has been stated on the EFL website that Andy Davies has been appointed to officiate in the all-Championship clash when the Hornets will be aiming to continue their excellent start to the season with a fifth successive win.
The Hampshire official only took charge of one match involving Watford last season, the 2-0 defeat at Sunderland in October when Ryan Andrews was sent off three minutes from the end of normal time.
That was the only time Davies showed red in the 25 league and cup matches he was in the middle for during the 2023/24 campaign.
This season, Davies has issued a total of eight cautions in two matches to date.
Graham Kane and Hugh Gilroy are due to be the assistant referees for the 7.45pm kick-off, with Charles Breakspear the fourth official.
