A referee who oversaw two Watford away wins last season is due to be in charge when the Hornets travel to Bramall Lane this weekend for what is set to be their toughest test of the campaign yet as they seek a sixth successive victory in all competitions.

It has been announced on the EFL website that Andrew Kitchen has been appointed as the referee for Sunday’s 3pm kick-off against Sheffield United.

Kitchen was in the middle for Watford’s 1-0 victories at Swansea City and Rotherham United in October and February respectively, and also officiated Watford’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City in January.

Those games were three of the 33 league and cup matches the referee was in charge of in 2023/24, during which he issued 103 yellow cards and three reds.

To date, Kitchen has officiated Championship games so far this season, showing a total of 10 yellow cards.

Alex James and Andrew Dallison are due to be the assistant referees for match against former Hornets head coach Chris Wilder’s side, with Matthew Donohue the fourth official.
