Ryan Andrews joins goalkeeper Dan Bachmann and defender Francisco Sierralta as definitely being ruled out of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup tie at Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Saturday’s scorer at Norwich has a slight hamstring issue to add to the muscle problems that forced Bachmann and Sierralta off the pitch inside 15 minutes at Carrow Road.
“Both of them have been scanned this morning, and we’re awaiting results. I can’t add anything much to what I said after the game,” said Tom Cleverley.
“If Dan were to be out for a long period then potentially we’d have to look at bringing in another keeper, but we don’t think it will.
“Yes there’s damage but we’re hopeful we’re in days and weeks rather than months.
“He did his thigh when he saved the chance from Sargent in the first minute. I think a fully-fit Dan Bachmann would have saved the first goal.
“In hindsight we would have made the substitution at the same time as Sierralta to avoid using a second substitution interval.
“He took two clearances trying to see if it was something he could play with. He’s never pulled his thigh before so you’re trying to diagnose yourself on the pitch.
“You can never be sure is it a spasm, is it cramp, is it damage, so he gave it six or seven minutes and it looks like he’s damaged his quad.
“We just hope it’s one that is low on the scale.
“Ryan won’t be in the squad, and he’s someone we need to take care of over the next few days because next week is a really important week for us.
“We’re hoping to have him available for every game of that week, and he has some hamstring tightness so he won’t be involved tomorrow.”
Cleverley said the response to Saturday’s beating from Norwich has been good at the training ground.
“I can’t the fault players’ application.
“They have trained well and been focussed, and Saturday is a result we need a reaction from.
“It is time for me to double down on the messages that have made us successful up to this point, and now our first major setback has come it’s a test of our character.”
