Five perfect penalties fired Oxhey Jets through to the next round of the Combined Counties Premier Challenge Cup last night following a 2-2 draw at Colliers United.
It was the second time this week Jets had to make the arduous trip to the Wibbandune Sports Group, following their 4-2 league defeat against Westside.
In a repeat of Saturday's game, Jets impressed during the first half and built a 2-0 lead.
David Lopes got the visitors off to an ideal start, finishing off a sweeping move in the fifth minute.
George Rice made it two on 25 minutes. Patrick Brander won the ball, ran and squared it for his teammate to convert and put their side firmly in control.
At the interval, the question was whether Jets could build on their advantage or if a second-half collapse would happen again.
The signs were initially fine but after a deflected own goal on 59 minutes put Colliers Wood back in the game, the South Oxhey side looked shaken again.
Jets though, could have wrapped up the game in the final ten minutes, having three good one-on-ones with the keeper, but they could not find a third goal.
Almost inevitably, they paid the price for their misses as the hosts equalised in the 89th minute.
To Jets' credit, they did not fold this time. With the game going to penalties, they stepped up to convert all five spot-kicks to secure a 5-4 victory after Colliers Wood put their third penalty over the bar.
The successful penalty takers were Joe Reade, Rice, David Lopes, Andre Lopes and, with the decisive fifth penalty, Dom Mosca.
