Mart Poom has had his contract with Watford terminated by mutual consent.

The 37-year-old has not played for the Hornets since dislocating his shoulder against Reading in September and both parties have agreed to go their separate ways prior to the Estonia international’s contract ending in June.

Brendan Rodgers said: “Obviously Mart's contract is up and so are a number of our players and we are just looking to do termination agreements, which help the players and the club and that is what we have looked to do.

“Mart is a good guy who is very professional but contractually and financially it helps both parties.”

Poom signed for Watford from Arsenal in May 2007 but his time at Vicarage Road has been plagued by injuries and he has only made 19 appearances for the club.

Poom told the club’s website: "I'm sorry I couldn't have played more games for Watford due to injury, but I certainly enjoyed the matches that I did play in.

"I am very grateful to Richard Collinge and all the other medical staff at the club who have worked incredibly hard getting me back to fitness, my thanks also to Alec [Chamberlain] who has been fantastic to work with.

"I wish the club all the success in the future."

Goalkeeper coach Alec Chamberlain also told the site: "Mart's professionalism and dedication is second to none. His injury against Reading was very unfortunate and a freak one that ended his season.

"By his high standards I'm sure he would have been disappointed with his first year as he had a few niggles. But he came back very determined for pre-season and started the season in excellent form and I know he's been frustrated by his injuries.

"Mart has shown tremendous dedication and willingness to get himself back fit and he has now been training with me for the last six weeks. So, it is all credit to him he is fit again, with the help of the medical staff.

"Whatever he chooses to do next, everyone at the club certainly wishes him all the very best for the future."
