Watford are expected to complete the signing of former Slovenian Under-21 international Jure Travner today.

Travner is understood to have had a medical with the club this week and is close to completing his move from Slovenian side NK Celje for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old left-back, who can also play at centre-back and left midfield, is expected to sign a two-year contract with the option of a third year.

Travner is 5ft 11in and although he hasn’t played for the full Slovenian national team, he is highly thought of in his homeland.

NK Celje this week confirmed a Championship side and a League One club were interested in Travner and that he had travelled to the UK on Sunday to have a medical with a club.

Reports in Slovenia say Travner has completed his medical and agreed personal terms and all that is left is confirmation from Watford.

Yesterday, Watford would only confirm negotiations were on-going when we went to press.

Press officer Mark Jamieson said: “We can confirm that we’re in talks with Jure Travner, however at this stage the player has not been signed.”
