Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter has praised Edward Griffiths for the way he handled the recent jeers at Vicarage Road.

Chief executive Griffiths was critical of the small section of the crowd who booed during Sarries' win over Gloucester last week after a spell of aimless kicking from either side. Venter was absent in South Africa at the time but he defended Griffiths' actions when asked about the situation on Sunday.

Venter said: "It was great Edward could take a thing like that and sort it out. That's the principle. We want to create a culture at Saracens which will stay a long time when we are all gone. That's our dream and part of that culture is being positive and seeing things in a positive light. It's just great for me as a coach to have a CEO that supports me and just says don't worry about that."

Saracens have enjoyed a perfect start in the Guinness Premiership with five consecutive wins yet their defensive tactics have still been criticised in certain quarters. But Venter is convinced they are on the right path and believes the cynics will eventually get behind the club.

He said: "For those people we will bring them with us. We know that so I'm not even worried about it at all."
