WATFORD look set to pick up around £70,000 to help fund the wages for a new midfield player, now that Swindon Town have come in for Jerel Ifil.

Peterborough United are also interested in the player and prepared to offer slightly more but Ifil, who has had two spells on loan at the County Ground, is said to prefer joining the Wiltshire club.

Watford have agreed to a sell-on percentage for the player who has caught the eye at Vicarage Road in both positive and negative senses.

Said manager Ray Lewington: "I just feel in terms of pace and power he has fantastic natural ability but what concerns me the higher up the game you play, the more you have to think about the game and not rely on pace and power.

"That is what lets him down: he does not see things quickly enough as yet. He is eye-catching with pace and power but he sometimes has problems."

The money from the fee, as well as the small saving on wages, will come in very handy for cash-strapped Watford who have to find a replacement for Micah Hyde.
