Brendan Venter believes Saracens have the momentum to push them all the way to the Guinness Premiership title this season.

The Men in Black's dramatic transformation into a free-scoring attacking team stepped up a notch on Saturday after their five-try win over Harlequins in front of their biggest crowd yet, 47,106, at Wembley.

The 37-18 victory has taken them to the brink of securing their play-off place, with only one point needed at second-placed Northampton Saints tomorrow (Saturday), but Sarries' director of rugby has his eyes set on loftier goals.

Venter, who recalls Glen Jackson, Neil de Kock and Jacques Burger to the side, said: "The main thing is we take it game from game. But we would like to win the Premiership.

"I wouldn't have come from South Africa if I didn't believe Saracens have got the potential. I brought my family here because I believe Saracens are going somewhere and we need to be able to beat Northampton.

"They're a great side and it will be a huge game but we want to get into a situation where we can win the Premiership. The momentum is in our favour, we're playing good rugby, there are a lot of positives and I'd much rather be in this position than not.

"It will be a big game because they're a good rugby side," Venter continued. "Them and Leicester are the trendsetters. They're not just one and two in the country for nothing but we look forward to it. We must have the ability to beat Northampton over there otherwise we haven't grown enough as a team."

Sarries have added a whole new dimension to their game in the last month.

Venter's side were slated heavily during the first half of the season, for their limited defensive game, which yielded only 16 tries in as many league games. But Saracens have unleashed a brilliant off-loading game on the Premiership in recent weeks which has resulted in a remarkable 18 tries in only four games.

The director of rugby added: "We kept saying we're just not good enough yet and we're building. For a team to achieve in their first year without good foundations is rare. Our foundations were always laid in other areas. For the attack to get to this level, it's not perfect, but without a doubt it’s good to watch."

One of the stars of the Premiership, Schalk Brits, has been at the forefront of their eye-catching performances and he turned in another virtuoso display at Wembley.

The outstanding hooker played a crucial role in the moves which set up Andy Saull for two tries in as many first-half minutes and his breathtaking pace took him over the line for their third try at the weekend.

"He's a special rugby player," Venter said. "He must be one of the three best hookers in world rugby and, without a doubt, the most talented with the ball in hand and defensively. You should see his stats.

"Last week Schalk had a great game against Sale with the ball in hand but he made the most tackles in the team, 18, and that's probably the most impressive thing about Schalk."
