Liam Henderson was withdrawn from last night’s Watford Reserves win as the striker will join a League Two club today, the Watford Observer understands.

Hornets manager Malky Mackay stated Henderson would start for the Reserves when he spoke to the Observer around 5pm last night but he was not named in the starting XI less than two hours later.

That was because yesterday evening Watford agreed another loan move for the Newcastle-born striker and he was withdrawn from the line-up as he may feature for the League Two side tonight.

Henderson has not played for Watford this season and was expected to spend the second half of the campaign at Aldershot Town.

The 21-year-old joined Aldershot on January 5 but then five days later manager Kevin Dillon left the League Two side and his replacement, Dean Holdsworth, decided he did not want the striker.

So Henderson returned to Watford having played just once for the League Two side but he could not be loaned out again until the end of January due to the previous loan agreement.

This will be Henderson’s fifth loan spell away from Watford after spending time at non-league Wealdstone, Hartlepool United, Colchester United and Aldershot Town.

Henderson will need to impress until the end of the season as his contract runs out in the summer, although the club do have the option of extending it by another year.

The Academy graduate has yet to score a goal in the Football League in 40 appearances - only four of which were starts though.

A young Watford Reserves beat Luton Town 1-0 at Boreham Wood’s Meadow Park last night with Connor Smith, who finished runner-up in Sky’s Football’s Next Star, hitting the winner in the 59th minute.

Oxford United lead the Combination East table but holders Watford are just one point behind and have three games in hand.
