Two brothers celebrated winning medals at a national gymnastics competition.

Mikie and Matthew Ridgway, from St Albans, finished second and first respectively at the Elite National Grade gymnastics programme in Birmingham.

Mikie, 13, who is a pupil at Marlborough Science Academy, competed for the East of England region and picked up a silver medal.

His nine-year-old younger brother Matthew, who goes to Killigrew, won gold in his first national tournament, alongside five other members of his team.

Their mother Debbie Ridgway, who is a trampoline instructor herself, could not contain her pride.

ā€œIā€™m actually quite emotional. This is such a major commitment for our family. They have both kept plugging away and worked so hard and really deserve this. They both want to be the next Max Whitlock.ā€

Mikie, who trains 24 hours a week, is set to compete at the British Championships in the new year.
