A person is seriously injured in hospital following a crash in the early hours of this morning.

The emergency services were urgently called at 12.30am (Thursday) to the A405 roundabout at j21A for the M25 near Bricket Wood.

A silver Volkswagen Golf and a white Ford Transit van had crashed on the roundabout.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent the air ambulance, two ambulances, and an ambulance officer to the scene while fire crews from Garston and St Albans attended too.

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue says one patient was freed from one of the vehicles involved and the ambulance service has confirmed they were taken by road to St Mary's Hospital in London.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says the patient is in a "serious but stable condition".

Police shut the roundabout for the rest of the night and into the morning rush hour to carry out an investigation into the collision.

The A405 was closed to drivers travelling from the Noke roundabout in Chiswell Green to the M25 at j21A.

Both the entry and exit slip roads on the M25 clockwise carriageway were closed too.

All road closures were lifted by 7.30am.
