Cute cartoon rabbit Miffy will be celebrating 70 years since first appearing on the page with a special appearance at the Hoo’s Kids Book Fest this weekend, now in its third year.

The one-day celebration of literature will also mark Kipper’s 25 birthday and will include a talk by St Albans author Dawn Finch who says: “I’m hugely looking forward to being a part of Hoo’s Kids Book Festival. It really has taken its place as one of the top literary festivals for young people, and I’m honoured to have been invited to take part.

“Festivals like this are a wonderful way to bring books and reading to life, and with so many great authors at Hoo this is going to be totally awesome!“

Robert Muchamore, author of the bestselling Cherub series, will also be there as will Sophie McKenzie, who has won the Red House Book Award as well as Richard and Judy’s Best Kids Books.

Younger readers also have the chance to see Jim Smith, author of the rib-tickling Barry Loser and winner of the 2013 Roald Dahl Funny Prize and enjoy workshops with illustrator Hannah Marks and cut paper artist Vanessa Stone, tree-painting, wigwam building and a chance to plant poppies in the walled gardens to commemorate World War One.
