Residents have protested outside of St Albans MP’s office to show their support for same sex marriage.

The group, joined by Labour councillors Martin Leach and Jacob Quagliozzi, gathered outside Anne Main’s office on December 15, demanding that she votes in favour of the new Parliamentary bill allowing gay marriage.

Councillor Quagliozzi said: "I think all sides deserve to have their views heard here, from people I speak to I find a consensus in St Albans in favour of equal marriage".

Mrs Main has implied that she will join other Conservative MPs in voting against the bill, saying: "I accept that this is an issue that will divide opinion, however I have been contacted by over 500 constituents asking me to vote against same sex marriage and only a few asking me to vote for it.

"I am always pleased to hear from my constituents about any issue however none of those in the group contacted me before the event to let me know it was happening so that I could be there to engage with them."
