A 20-year-old man from North Finchley was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in the early hours of Sunday.

Darren Ogiste, of Woodside Grove, North Finchley, died after he was shot once in the chest in Stoke Newington, east London.

He and a friend were out in the town, when police say a silver car pulled up alongside them.

Several shots were fired from inside the car, hitting both men. They both staggered to the area's main high street, Church Street, where Mr Ogiste collapsed outside a supermarket.

Both men were taken to Homerton Hospital but doctors were unable to save Mr Ogiste's life.

A post-mortem held at Poplar mortuary on Monday revealed that he died of a gunshot wound to the chest, shock and trauma.

Mr Ogiste's 23-year-old friend was treated and later discharged.

Officers from the police's Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in London's black communities are looking into the crime, which bears a resemblance to a gangland feud. However police said they were keeping an open mind' about motives.

Detective superintendent Gary Richardson said: "We know that the victims arrived on the corner of Defoe Road together shortly before the incident. A vehicle then drove alongside them and shots were fired from within.

"We are appealing for information from anyone who was in this area between 1.15am and 1.40am on Sunday."

No arrests have been made in relation to the shooting.

Anyone with information about this incident should call police on 020 8785 4702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 555.
