Harrow will be well represented at next month’s finals of the London Youth Games after seeing their tennis, girls’ hockey and girls’ table tennis teams successfully qualify.

The borough topped their qualifying group in the tennis, winning all of their matches which consisted of three rubbers – one match each of boys’ singles, girls’ singles and mixed doubles.

The 2011 bronze medallists saw off Barnet, Redbridge and Islington to secure a place at Crystal Palace on July 6-7.

They will be joined by the girls’ hockey team who made it through to finals week after finishing second in their group behind 2010 winners Richmond.

“The girls just got better and better and we really deserved qualification,” said hockey manager Gary Thompson.

“The finals are difficult because it is the best of London. We have to prepare as hard as we can and deliver our best. The team finished eleventh last year and I definitely want to do better than that.”

The girls’ table tennis team progressed from qualifying after defeating Redbridge and Richmond as they look to better last year’s third place finish.

The London Youth Games are Europe’s largest annual youth sports event and this year is set to be the biggest yet with over 100,000 competitors.

The Games culminate in finals week at the National Sports centre in Crystal Palace next month with the overall winning borough being awarded the Jubilee Trophy.
