A pub will be demolished and replaced with two blocks of flats if a planning application is approved.

The Grapevine, in Prestwick Road, South Oxhey, could be pulled down to make way for 33 flats. A three-storey block will contain 20 two-bedroom and nine one-bedroom flats, and a two-storey block will hold four two-bedroom apartments.

The plans, which were submitted to Three Rivers District Council by Watford Community Housing Trust, will include 15 affordable homes - 10 apartments will be socially rented and five will be shared ownership.

Gareth Lewis, director of partnerships at Watford Community Housing Trust, said: “The Trust has submitted a planning application to provide much-needed new homes on the site of The Grapevine pub, with the full support of the current owner.

"The plans have been drawn up specifically to meet the infrastructure requirements for the area, which have been set out by Three Rivers District Council and indicate that new affordable housing is one of the top priorities locally. These plans will help to address the chronic shortage of affordable housing in South Oxhey and we are exploring the possibility of working directly in partnership with Three Rivers District Council to deliver the scheme.

“We held a consultation event in November, giving local residents the opportunity to review the plans and comment on them, as well as engaging with councillors. The feedback we received was very positive, especially with regard to the design of the proposed new buildings, and we are confident that the new development would enhance the area as well as delivering desperately needed housing for local people.”
