A GROUP of girls are putting their selling skills to the test this afternoon as they raise money for the BBC’s Children in Need.

Eleven year-old Bryony McVeigh, of St Alban and St Stephen Primary School in St Albans, rounded up her four best friends, after applying for a fundraising pack, and together hatched a plan.

Tonight Bryony, twins Nicky and Rachel Green, 10, Kate Ablett, 10, and Stella Russo, 11, will head up to the party in Wembley to present their giant cheque, which they are hoping will read at least £100.

In the midst of a cake sale Bryony said: “I saw an advert for a fundraising pack and I thought it would be a good idea so I asked the girls and we decided to do a cake sale.

“We have had some cake donations and we also baked some ourselves.

“It’s been easier than we thought and fun.”

The girls are raising the money through a cake sale, raffle and guess the number of sweets in the jar.

Their trip to London for Children in Need tonight coincides with Stella’s 11th birthday.

Stella said: “I think Children in Need is a good way to help children who are not as fortunate as us.

“I’m really pleased we’re doing something and it’s been fun to organise it ourselves.”

Rachel added: “I’m really excited because we’ve been planning it for ages.

The girls who have had help baking from family and friends are looking forward to seeing the show live.

Kate said: “We’re all going to scream when we get there.”

Carmel Mcveigh, Bryony’s mother, said: “I think it’s brilliant that they’re doing something for other people.

“They’ve been organising themselves and had a lot of fun too.”

The annual BBC Children in Need appeal, which raises money for impovirished or vulnerable children across the world, is live tonight.
