Barnet residents will have the opportunity to be snapped with the most iconic symbol of the Olympics this week.

The Olympic Torch will be burning brightly in The Spires Shopping Centre, in High Street, on Friday 13 June.

Members of the public will be allowed to have a photograph with the torch for a small donation to the A Smile for a Child.

The charity provides grants for disabled and disadvantaged children, allowing them to participate and progress in sport.

Patron Lauren Read ran with the torch on June 20 and is displaying it at the shopping centre between 10am and 5pm to raise cash for the charity.

Graham Trotman, centre manager said: “We are very excited to have the torch visit us at The Spires, and would like to thank Smile for a Child for letting us be a part of this momentous occasion.”

Barnet is one of the last locations the torch will travel through before finally reaching the Olympic Stadium. It will be carried by 27 bearers on Wednesday 25 July.
