Watford fuel prices have shot up again after the EU agreed to cut 90 per cent of Russian oil by the end of 2022.

Average prices at the pumps have hit record highs this week as the invasion of Ukraine continues to cause major global disruption.

We visited six forecourts in Watford on May 31 in the afternoon to see just how much they have risen since we last investigated on May 6.

Asda at the Dome Roundabout in Garston is now selling unleaded petrol at £1.67 litre, up from £1.58. It has increased the cost of diesel too, priced at £1.77 up from £1.71.

Across the road, Shell petrol station has also increased its prices. Unleaded is now being sold at £1.69, instead of £1.61. Diesel is now priced at £1.78 up from £1.75.

It’s a similar story at the Esso station on St Albans Road. Unleaded is now at £1.69 up from £1.63. Diesel has seen an increase too at £1.81 up from £1.76.

The trend continued at Tesco’s Waterfield’s where unleaded was being sold for £1.70 instead of £1.61. Diesel was being sold at £1.78 up from £1.73.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said the average price of a litre of petrol at UK forecourts was 167.7p on Monday.

That was up from 165.1p a week earlier.

The average price of diesel on Monday was 181.14p per litre, up from 179.7p last week.
