An American diner in Bushey has been slapped with the second lowest possible hygiene rating.
Waffle House, in High Road, Bushey, has been rated one out of five for hygiene by council food safety officers following an inspection on May 10.
The recently published report found the diner was in need of necessary major improvements.
In particular officers criticised the establishments food safety management, or, the systems and checks in place to ensure that food is sold safe to eat.
Waffle House, which serves coffee, deserts and ice cream, has a history of poor hygiene ratings.
In 2016, 2017 and 2020 the restaurant was rated two out of five – ‘improvement necessary’.
In 2018 it was rated a three or ‘good’.
When inspecting a premise, food safety officers review three criteria:
• Hygienic food handling
• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building
• Management of food and systems to ensure food served is safe to eat
