With the chief scientific adviser stating that vaccines have “weakened” Covid-19 hospitalisations and deaths, more walk-in vaccination clinics are available in Watford.

Watford Borough Council is offering even more walk-in vaccinations at Watford Town Hall in a push to get the public vaccinated ahead of the so-called ‘freedom day’ on July 19.

Walk-in vaccinations will be encouraged throughout this week, as Covid-19 cases rise in the area.

Anyone over 18 requiring a vaccination jab can either visit the town hall for both the first and second vaccination.

Most of the week will be dedicated to handing out just Pfizer jabs, however today (July 6), AstraZeneca jabs are being offered.

Here is when you can get your jab at the town hall this week:

• Monday and Tuesday (July 5 and July 6) from 8am to 3.3pm (AstraZeneca)

• Wednesday (July 7) from 11.30am to 7.30pm (Pfizer)

• Thursday (July 8) from 8.30am to 4.30pm (Pfizer)

• Friday (July 9) from 11.30am to 7.30pm (Pfizer)

• Saturday and Sunday (July 10 and July 11) from 8.30am to 3.30pm (Pfizer)

People are not required to be registered with a GP or have an NHS number, and the council says no bookings are needed.

Both the first and second jabs are being offered, but anyone attending to get a second dose must have received their first dose at least eight weeks ago.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that the final stage of England’s Covid lockdown roadmap is set to go ahead as planned on July 19.

This will be confirmed next Monday (July 12), after reviewing the latest data.

During the briefing, chief medical adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said the link between cases, hospital admission and death has “weakened, not broken” by the vaccines.

While Covid case rates are rising alarmingly high in the country, hospitalisations and deaths are not to the same degree that would have been before the vaccination rollout.

Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “With Covid cases rising in Watford, please do receive your vaccination as soon as you can.

“There are walk-in clinics at Watford Town Hall all week.

“Getting vaccinated is the best thing you can do to keep yourself and others safe.”
