The Covid pandemic has been tough on everyone. I will forever be grateful to the NHS and everyone who has served our town during this period. Students, teachers and local families have had to adapt these difficult circumstances. I would like to wish my very best to everyone receiving examination results this month and hope that these reward their resilience.

Whilst Covid has definitely not gone away, we have seen the impact the vaccine is making in reducing the number of people seriously ill with this virus. Getting both jabs reduces your chance of ending up in hospital with covid by 96 per cent. There are lots of walk in clinics in the town, where you can get a vaccine without an appointment. All the details about these are at www.watford.gov.uk/clinics.

As the restrictions have started to ease, we have an exciting summer of events across Watford this year. These will help people enjoy time with their friends and family in a safe way.

The ‘Summer of Fun’ kicked off with Watford’s Magical Maze which proved a hit during May half term. Our friends at the Watford Palace Theatre also recently relaunched their ever popular Imagine Watford Festival in an innovative way that catered for the new normal but still held the excitement and intrigue we’ve all come to expect and love from the event. It has been great to see so many families enjoying the events that have already taken place and the lovely weather we have been having recently.

In August we have already seen the successful return of the Big Screen and still have Big Beach, Big Bandstand and Colourscape to enjoy over the next few weeks. These fantastic events make the most of the wonderful open spaces we have in our town and provide lots of opportunities for families and friends to get together in a Covid-safe environment.

I look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces, and hopefully new ones too, at the exciting events we have coming up. You can find out all about what’s going on in Watford at www.watfordsummeroffun.com.
