Watford Market will be opening its doors after hours to welcome town centre visitors to its first-ever night event.

'Market Lates' will take place on September 3 and will include craft beer, a prosecco bar and street food set to a soundtrack of live music.

Making the most of its outdoor space and offering a feast for the eyes, ears and the belly, the market’s popular food stalls will be rustling up delicacies to delight visitor's taste buds, including Caribbean, Asian and Korean street food.

People will be able to enjoy the ambience of market dining and purchase from a menu of fresh dishes plus drinks in the covered casual dining space in the town centre.

The event on September 3 will begin at 5.30pm and end at 10pm - and the council plans to roll out further events over the coming months.

Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: "The Market Lates event will be a great opportunity for visitors to discover some of the market’s popular traders, whilst enjoying a night out with friends or family.

"There will be an ongoing community project designed to support local traders and producers, and also enhance the town’s night-time economy, by bringing colour and light to the streets of Watford.

"I am really looking forward to experiencing some of the food and drink that will be on offer whilst meeting new faces."

In recent months, Watford Borough Council has invested into the market by introducing new signage, seating, and planting. New traders have also been welcomed.

Mr Taylor said he was determined to have a "thriving" market in the town and the council committed £250,000 to making improvements.
