A popular skating event has returned and showcased youngsters’ talents after being put on hold for a year.
Hundreds attended the Skate Jam held at Croxley Skate Park on Saturday, August 14 for a day of scooting, skateboarding and BMXing.
The crowd watched skaters perform impressive tricks while the panel of judges had to pick winners for each competition.
The event was open to everybody, with the winners being those who displayed the greatest combination of skill, balance and nerve.
Prizes were awarded for the winners in a range of categories and age groups.
Vice-chair of Three Rivers District Council Cllr Debbie Morris attended the event and awarded some of the prizes.
She said: “There were some unbelievably talented young people taking part in the competitions. With skateboarding and BMX now in the Olympics, who knows, we may even have seen some future Olympians taking part.”
Croxley based ABC Skateboarding provided free skateboard coaching in the morning.
Further sponsorship and prizes were provided by Source BMX, Chili Scooters, Lariatt Skateboard Shop, Tasty Bean Café and Keep Rolling Co.
When not competing, participants and spectators could enjoy an inflatable obstacle course, provided by Apex 360, and a Zine making workshop run by It’s Okay Project.
Cllr Chris Lloyd, lead member for leisure at Three Rivers District Council who also attended the event, added: “The combination of sports, music and great weather gave the Jams a real festival feel about them.
“It was great to see it so well attended by participants and spectators alike. Thank you to all the local sponsors for donating prizes for the event.”
