An adventure fitness venue in Watford is launching sessions specifically for people with special educational needs (SEN).
The sessions at Ninja Warrior are starting in September and will run every Tuesday morning from 10.30am to 12pm during term time.
Tim Morrison from Prime Leisure, which runs the venue, said: “We feel strongly that the centre should be a place that everyone can enjoy and these ‘Get Up And Go Ninjas’ sessions are trying to provide a calmer environment for those that might otherwise find it all a bit of a challenge.
“Activity users will have full access to the park, but there will be ‘slow rules’, the music will be quieter and there will be no loud announcements.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone.”
The Woodside Leisure Centre venue supports Get Up and Go – a Watford-based service that aims to help young adults with learning disabilities get jobs.
Get Up and Go founder Gary O’Brien hailed the “amazing” Ninja Warrior centre after it agreed to hire two people he works with – Tom and Billy – who have joined the catering team.
Mr O’Brien, also known as Happy Gary, said Billy Bradley has been doing really well since starting there when it first opened.
He said: “He can’t wait for his shifts there and all the staff at UK ninja have been amazing.
“If only more companies in Watford would give young adults with learning disabilities a job in the workplace and a chance to feel needed. Hopefully this story will highlight this problem.”
