A garden featured in the National Garden Scheme will open to the public for one afternoon of beautiful surroundings, as well as tea and cakes.

The garden, which belongs to Hasrtuty and Yogesh Patel, will open on Sunday September 12, from 2pm till 5pm.

Mr and Mrs Patel’s home is located at 4 Ormonde Road, Moor Park, Northwood, HA6 2EL.

Mum-of-two Mrs Patel, 58, is a magistrate and has lived there since 1991. Her husband said she is the keen gardener out of the two.

Mr Patel said: “The reason why she decided to join the National Garden Scheme six years ago was to give people a time to come and enjoy the garden and at the same time enjoy some cakes with tea or coffee.

“Visiting the garden has become an outing especially for the elderly who come to enjoy the garden but at the same time be able to meet like-minded individuals and just be able to talk to them.

The National Garden Scheme, which was founded in 1927, opens privately owned gardens in England and Wales on selected dates for charity.

“It is such a community spirited event. The event raises much needed funds for a number of charities.”

The large family garden has been planted with acers, magnolias and rhododendrons.

The large flowering tulip tree in the middle towers over the garden, while conifers and high hedges keep the garden private.

There are a variety of trees including an almond tree, a Persian iron wood and a forest pansy.

Mr and Mrs Patel look forward to welcoming anybody interested in gardens.

Entry fee costs £6 with all proceeds going to the National Garden Scheme, with tea and cakes on sale.
