The axing of the popular Stevens fun fair in Cassiobury Park this year has caused understandable outrage. I am not sure why it has caused the Liberal Democrat killjoys who made the decision without consultation and among themselves such surprise.

The announcement of extra bank holidays for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was supposed to add to the nation’s enjoyment, but not in Watford it seems, under Lib Dem Mayor Peter Taylor.

Here the council is sticking rigidly by its arbitrary policy of allowing no more than six amplified events in Cassiobury Park a year, despite there being plenty of scope for a seventh which would have seen the fair be able to attend as is traditional.

We don’t need secret Soviet-style decision making in Watford or to be taken for a ride by the Liberal Democrats. What we need is a bit of common sense – that is if the fun fair operators haven’t had enough of the way the Liberal Democrats and present Mayor Peter Taylor, who is up for election this year, run the town.

It is clear that change is needed in Watford.
