The pub chain Greene King is offering free pints today (May 30) in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The IPA pints were initially being offered for 6p - the same as it was at the time of Her Majesty's coronation in 1952.

However, Greene King is not allowed to sell for this price under licensing laws, so has decided to give away the first drink for free.

The offer for pints will be available at 408 Greene King Local Pub or Flaming Grill sites and can be claimed by using the password "1952" at the bar.

The pubs in the Watford area, according to the Green King website taking part are:

  • Southern Cross, 41-43 Langley Road, Watford, WD17 4PP
  • Tudor Arms, Bushey Mill Lane, Watford, WD24 7TQ
  • Red House, Watford Road, Croxley Green, WD3 3DX

Andrew Gallagher, marketing director at Greene King Local Pubs, said: "The platinum jubilee is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and country.

"We will be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p.

"We can't wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday 30 May, and look forward to celebrating the platinum jubilee in all our pubs across the bank holiday weekend."
