A reggae band that has frequently performed at a massive food and music festival in Hertfordshire has dropped out after the death of their lead singer.

Pub in the Park will be heading to Verulamium Park in St Albans from September 9 to 11, with a whole host of superstar chef talent set to whet your appetite.

However the organisers have now confirmed that the Aswad band will no longer perform following the death of Angus ‘Drummie' Gaye.

The band was scheduled to play at festival in St Albans on Sunday, September 11, on the same day as soul singer Beverley Knight.

A spokesperson for the event said: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Aswad’s lead vocalist, Angus ‘Drummie’ Gaye.

"Over the years, Aswad’s performances at Pub in the Park have bought so much joy to so many. Our deepest condolences go out to Drummie’s family and friends.

"Aswad, who were due to appear at St Albans Pub in the Park on Sunday 11 September, will understandably no longer be performing.

"We will be announcing an additional act for the Sunday line-up in due course."

The 62-year-old’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

On Aswad’s Facebook page, a statement said: “It is with deepest regret and profound loss that we have to announce the passing of our brother Angus ‘Drummie’ Gaye.

“Drummie was the lead vocalist for the iconic band Aswad and is much loved and respected by both family, friends and peers alike.

“More information will be given at a later time but on behalf of his family and Aswad - we ask that their privacy is respected at this heart-breaking time.

“Drummie has left us to join our ancestors and leaves a huge void both personally and professionally.”

UB40 guitarist and vocalist RB Campbell wrote: “RIP DRUMMIE ZEB. So sad to hear of the passing of Angus ‘Drummie Zeb’ Gaye, founder member, legendary drummer and vocalist with Aswad. Condolences and deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleague.”

Aswad is known for its chart-topping hits such as Shine and Don’t Turn Around.
