The theft took place around 9am at the Texaco Petrol station in Primrose Hill, Kings Langley, on Saturday, December 10.

Since then, calls have been made on social media for the elf, called Gregg after the Greggs store inside the station, to be returned.

The store’s manager Siva Kula, who was not there at the time of the incident, said: “My team told me that two men in their 20s or 30s came into the store.

“They asked if the elf outside on the Christmas tree was for sale and the staff said no.

“Later, they realised the elf had gone so the team checked the CCTV.

“We saw the men take it.”

He added: “The team is horrified. They are really upset and angry, it had only been up for one week.”

Mr Kula is now in the process of ordering a new elf.

He said he did not want to “waste police time” so did not contact them.
