With the weather turning milder and the sun beginning to make an appearance, many of us will be heading outside to enjoy walks on a more frequent basis.

There are a variety of locations to enjoy walks both in and near Watford, in order to gain the benefits of fresh air and sunlight.

With that in mind, we've put together a list some great Spring walking locations near Watford.

1. Rickmansworth Aquadrome, Rickmansworth

Rickmansworth Aquadrome is a 41-hectare local nature reserve in the north of Colne Valley Regional Park.

Two lakes are included in the area, along with open grassland and woodland.

A play area and café are also present at the location.

2. Grand Union Canal Towpath, Watford

The Grand Union Canal links London to England's second city Birmingham.

The canal runs through much of Watford, including Cassiobury Park.

A tranquil towpath runs beside the water with bridges, pubs and kiosks featured throughout.

3. Whippendell Wood, near Watford

Whippendell Wood is believed to be over 400 years old.

165 acres of woodland is present, used for a variety of activities including walking and horse riding.

The area has been designated a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' due to its variety of woodland habitats.

4. Bricket Wood Common, Bricket Wood

Bricket Wood Common features 78.5 hectares of diverse wildlife habitat.

Ancient semi-natural woodland is present throughout, providing a home to newts, butterflies, heather, fungi, blue bells and orchids.

Grassland, ponds and streams can all be seen at the location.

5. Bishop's Wood, near Northwood

Bishop's Wood covers 38 hectares on the outskirts of Northwood.

Flowers, such as the common spotted orchid and enchanter's nightshade can be found at the location.

Animals including butterflies, nuthatches and woodpeckers can also be seen.
