Our journey into the Watford Observer’s picture archive has already recalled one smaller concert Elton John played in the town in 1976, and today we’re delighted to bring you some more images form another of his performances six years later when his football club were scaling in unprecedented heights.
The Watford FC chairman was back in town on November 30, 1982 at the same time as the Hornets were taking football by storm, sitting second in the old Division One table during their first season at the top table of the English game.
The Town Hall concert came as the music legend was approaching the end of his nine-month global ‘Jump Up’ tour that had started in New Zealand in March and ended with a run of 16 shows at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in the run-up to Christmas.
The rock legend was in full showman mode, bringing the audience to his feet at the Watford venue as he dressed as Napoleon and also leapt around on stage with a banana costume on.
We hope you enjoy looking through these pictures taken by a Watford Observer photographer that night and you may be lucky enough to spot yourself if you were in that audience almost 41 years ago.
