A new café is set to open later this month on Queen's Road in Watford.

The Daily Grind is the brainchild of Mitch and Gavin - who are twin brothers - and Prebz, three entrepreneurs who think that they have spotted a gap in the market.

Mitch, who runs three businesses from an office on Queen's Road, told the Watford Observer that the idea for the café had come to them after "seeing everyone walking past all day with cups from Costa, Caffe Nero", and realising that they were spending significant chunks of their lunch breaks walking to get their coffees.

He's hoping that by providing an "independent and warm environment that's inviting for all", the café will appeal to groups in the area, from working professionals to parents who take their kids to the nearby nursery.

Mitch continued: "We want it to be a welcoming space for people to come and work from, have meetings, or sit down and relax.

"It's a convenient location where people can sit down, de-stress and have a coffee or a pastry, relax and let their hair down in a cosy environment.

"We look at coffee as an affordable luxury. And with all the prices increasing, the cost-of-living increasing, people still want to be able to go out and enjoy themselves without spending a fortune.

"We want to create an environment where people can sit down and have more of an experience rather than just a grab-and-go at a chain."

Aside from the obvious coffee connotations, The Daily Grind name also "stemmed from us three constantly working and doing different ventures", Mitch said. "We want people to start their mornings on the way to work, stopping by The Daily Grind, then cracking on with their day and keep on hustling."

It's the first foray into running a café for the three owners, though Prebz has extensive experiencing in hospitality, having run several restaurants in Hertfordshire and London.

They're hoping to bring over some of the most popular cold dishes, such as cheesecakes, from Humo, Prebz's Spanish restaurant on King Street. It would complement the range of food they're already planning to offer, which includes sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Vegetarian and vegan food will be available, as well as a variety of alternative milk options.

Mitch and Gav are documenting their journey on Instagram at the.property.twins, and plan to use their three existing property-related businesses to help make The Daily Grind a staple of the community.

With experience of providing emergency housing and temporary accommodation, they're intending to help provide free drinks and food to people who are homeless, either on a monthly or quarterly basis, as well as selecting a monthly charity to raise money for.

Renovations are still ongoing, but Mitch, Gavin and Prebz have pencilled in February 21 as the opening date they're aiming for. They are currently looking for two baristas, with anybody interested invited to email thedailygrindwatford@gmail.com.

The Daily Grind will initially be open from 7am until 4pm Monday to Friday, and 9am until 3pm at weekends.
