The annual Chorleywood music night will be devoted to raising funds for the charity Cure Parkinson’s.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 18 starting at 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall in Chorleywood.

A two-course meal has been organised by West Herts College and there will be a raffle and live music provided by the covers band, The Old Kings & Young Princesses.

Chris van Dyk, event organiser, said: "We have canapes, followed by a sit-down meal, and then at around 9:30pm the band starts up and everyone works off their dinner.

"There's a full bar and raffle too."

The event has taken place annually for several years, becoming an established event within the community and has successfully raised funds for local charities.

The Old Kings & Young Princesses covers band has a connection with the organisers, Chris and his wife, Chrissie, as Chris plays in the band.

Chris said: "The Old Kings stems from us all attending Kingsbury High School in NW9.

"It started as a schoolboy band followed by a 30-year hiatus, reforming for fun for my 50th birthday, and now we play charity fundraising gigs.

"It's become a bit of a family affair too; following the tragic early passing of our guitarist, Chrissie's brother Gavin now plays guitar, and her daughter Danielle is one of the three Young Princesses."

The decision to support Cure Parkinson’s was a personal one for Chris and Chrissie.

Chrissie’s first husband lives with the condition, as does one of the band members.

Additionally, the charity has roots in the region, founded in Croxley Green in 2005 before moving to Rickmansworth and then London.

Helen Matthews, CEO of Cure Parkinson’s, said: "Fundraising support is absolutely critical for the charity to enable us to achieve our goal.

"We aim to cure Parkinson’s and the only way we will do this is through the help of all our incredible supporters: it’s as simple as that."

Tickets are now sold out for the event.
