After well over a year of waiting, Watford's new Aldi store is finally set to open later this month.

Where is the new store and when is it opening?
The new supermarket will be located in the former Iceland and Laser Planet units in Albert Road South and will open on Thursday, June 25.
It will operate in the space below the former Pryzm nightclub, which itself looks set to get a new use after plans were submitted earlier this year for an Anytime Fitness gym to fill the space.
Due to Aldi's sponsorship deal with Team GB, Winter Olympic medal-winning star Hammy McMillan will be cutting the ribbon.
Free bags of fresh fruit and vegetables will be given to the first 30 customers in the queue.
How many jobs will be created?
An Aldi spokesperson previously said: “Once open, the store will create up to 40 jobs and help local people shop and save closer to home.”
This week has seen the retailer confirm that that 30 staff will be employed by the store, with job applications still live at time of writing.
How long has the store been in the pipeline?
For shoppers the wait has been a long one, with Aldi's plan to take over the space first revealed back in March 2025 when signs were spotted in the car park.
A brochure the previous year had confirmed that a supermarket of some kind would be moving in from summer 2025.
This summer opening did not end up happening, with Watford having to wait a full year longer for the opening date and to see a space filled that has sat vacant since October 2023.

Where else could Aldi supermarkets be opening?
While the new Aldi store will be joining the German giant's existing supermarket in Dalton Way, the Hertfordshire expansion shows no sign of slowing down.
A recently published wish list says that Aldi is hoping to open in Rickmansworth, St Albans, Stevenage, Hitchin and Ware.
