The co-owner of a Watford pub has said he is "absolutely thrilled" after it scooped an awards double.

Two Trees Micro has been named Watford and District Pub of the Year and Cider Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Michael Ash - who runs the Vicarage Road venue alongside partner Kathryn Perry - said: "Having never run a business like this before, we are constantly learning and looking for ways to move forward. To see that progress acknowledged is incredibly rewarding.

"Being seen and awarded like this is a wonderful validation of the sheer effort we put into keeping and serving our beer in the best possible condition. Ultimately, we just want to see more people discovering and enjoying great cask ale and real cider!"

As well as the two wins, the pub also came third in the Hertfordshire-wide pub of the year category, which was won by The Orange Tree in Baldock.

This is the second time in three years that Two Trees Micro has won these awards, having also been victorious back in 2024.

In 2025, the pub also retained its place in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, capping off what was a generally successful year.

In a Watford Observer interview last October, Michael said: "Things seem to be positive and sales of our ale are doing a lot better than keg beer, which is the way that we want it. I think we are unique in that we are small and do beers that you can't get elsewhere."

Reflecting on the first few years since 2022's opening, he said: "I wouldn't say I am surprised by our success, as we wouldn't have done it if we didn't hope it be popular, but I am happy to see people coming out, that we have good regulars, and that more people are drinking real ale."

While the pub has "a good group of regulars", trade also comes from the word of mouth buzz that comes with a place in the Good Beer Guide, as well as the inevitable pre and post-match boost when Watford FC are at home.

The pub holds a 4.8 rating from 98 reviews on Google. Reviewers described it as a “fantastic micro pub”, “fabulous”, and a “my new favourite place”.
