Unsung women are the subject of a new stage adaptation of poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy’s collection of poems The World’s Wife, which comes to The Old Town Hall in Hemel this month.

The World’s Wife, Carol’s first themed collection, was published in 1999 and takes characters, stories, histories and myths which focus on men, and represents them from a female perspective.

Actress Linda Marlowe, a long-term collaborator with Stephen Berkoff (Decadence, The Trial, Metamorphosis, Hamlet, Greek and Coriolanus) embarks on a heroic feat exploring the mindsets of fictional characters such as Mrs Faust, Queen Kong and Mrs Midas. Also under the microscope in Linda’s one-woman show that slices through centuries of history and myth, are real life personalities such as Frau Freud and Mrs Darwin.

Laced with dark humour and acerbic wit, this heartfelt expose will enthral lovers of Duffy’s poems and newcomers alike.

The peformance comes to The Old Town Hall, High Street, Hemel Hempstead on Saturday 14 November at 8pm. Tickets: 01442 228091, www.dacorum.gov.uk/arts (£7.50-£12)
