Toned and honed Gladiators Doom and Enigma are not names you’d associate with musicals, but Rickmansworth Players member Jamie Ross met Sky TV’s Gladiators Wayne Gordon and Jenny Pacey at a fitness training session and was talking enthusiastically about his role in the group’s latest show Sweet Charity.
Wayne said he’d like to be involved and Jamie decided to give up his role as Daddy Brubeck, the charismatic leader of The Rhythm Of Life Church and let Wayne audition for the part. Wayne was successful and Jenny also joined the cast. Jamie is kept pretty busy too with a host of cameo roles.
Rickmansworth Players member Mandi Aldrige plays the role of Charity, the part streetwise, part waif, who always gets dumped by men. Her big number If They Could See Me Now sees her jumping for joy at having landed a movie star matinee idol. But will he be the one?
Sweet Charity is at The Watersmeet Theatre, Rickmansworth from Tuesday, November 10 to Saturday, November 14 at 7.45pm, Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets: 0844 745 1944, www.rickmansworth-players.org.uk (£10-£14)
