Czeslaw Golebiowski

Published on 09/05/2024

Golebiowski Czeslaw "Czes" Czeslaw M. Golebiowski 6.5.1924 - 26.02.2023 In memory of dear Czes on what would have been his 100th birthday celebration. He was a great character - physically strong even in his later years - as he maintained his passion for ski racing into his mid 70s, sea fishing aged 94 and more recently was to be found foraging for mushrooms on his mobility scooter. He was raised in Gorzyce, Poland, becoming a commander of Partisans during WW2 - was shot but escaped to Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Eventually arriving in the UK, he was awarded a 1st class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering after studying at Imperial College London. He became a pioneer in the development of Electric Motor Drives, earning an international reputation particularly in relation to the paper industry and in 1972, founded the Cortina Electric Company, Tolpits Lane, Watford. He was forever mindful of his Polish roots, returning on several occasions to his birthplace, accompanied by grandchildren. He outlived wife Rona (sadly died March 2018). Both Rona and Czes are lovingly remembered by their four children, many grand and great grand children who have developed Czes's passion for electrical engineering, the arts, pets, sports - including skiing.
