Watford’s MP is looking into the circumstances around the death of a young schoolgirl in Abbots Langley after receiving messages from concerned constituents on Facebook.

Mr Harrington was inundated with requests for him to take action after Jessica Cobb, 15, was found dead at her home last week.

It comes after her father Mark Cobb took to Facebook to urge the Conservative backbencher to view a tribute page set up in memory of his "very happy, lively, infectious and vibrant daughter".

Since the news emerged on Wednesday, January 16, hundreds of tributes expressing grief and shock poured in for Jessica, a pupil at St Michael’s Catholic High School in High Elms Lane.

Mr Cobb wrote: "As a family our lives have been put in a mixer and spat out. There is something missing in what the mixer spat out: a daughter and a big sister has gone missing - that's missing from our lives."

He then asked Mr Harrington to "please take this little group seriously, not just as an MP but as a normal bloke."

Following the post from Mr Cobb, hundreds of members from the social networking site took to the town MP’s page to urge him to take action on cyber bullying in relation to Jessica Cobb.

As a result of the concerns highlighted, the Watford MP confirmed he would raise the issue of cyber bulling in the House of Parliament on Monday.

However after making enquiries with the police, school and Jessica’s family, Mr Harrington decided against this.

Hertfordshire Constabulary are currently investigating the circumstance around the teenager’s death but said they have not found evidence of bullying.

Mr Harrington posted: "I have not wanted to comment too much on this case until I had spoken to Jessica's family and others about this case which I have now done.

"Information I have learnt today has meant that I was not able to raise this issue in Parliament until I have spoken to the family further."

He added he had made the Government aware of the issues raised by many people and the extent to which people are concerned about bullying.

Police were called to Jessica’s home in Gable Close at 7:30am following concerns for her welfare. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Jessica’s funeral will take place on Monday, January 28 at St Saviour Church in Abbots Langley at 11am. Visitors are then invited to West Herts Crematorium at 12:40pm.

Jessica’s parents have asked well wishers to donate money to a memorial fund instead of buying flowers.
